Theodorou defeats Dwyer at Rise FC 6
CAFE is a proud supporter of Elias Theodorou, who became the world’s first sanctioned cannabis athlete when he was granted a therapeutic use exemption in January 2020.
In his second fight since receiving the exemption, Elias Theodorou defeated Matt Dwyer in the 3rd round of their middleweight bout during Rise FC 6 in Victoria B.C. on March 13th, 2021.
Congrats to Elias for continuing to set the precedent for cannabis and athletics!
Over the past several years, CAFE has worked closely with Theodorou to support his continued fight against the stigma of cannabis in sports, and for the rights of all athletes to medicate as prescribed by their doctor.
Following his successful battle for a therapeutic use exemption, Elias collaborated with CAFE on Fighting The Stigma – The Journey of a Cannabis Athlete, a documentary about his cannabis journey.
Ahead of his fight last weekend, Theodorou describes the documentary:
“It represents my story as both athlete and patient – I couldn’t be more proud to share it with the world. Not only for myself, but for other athletes, as this fight set precedent for those that come after me. My hope is to create recognition of the potential power of cannabis for others, fighting any stigma that’s perceived or received.”
