Rick Simpson Oil (RSO) has been known in the medical marijuana industry for almost 20 years. RSO is a form of concentrated cannabis oil that’s commonly used for more serious medical conditions like cancer.
Where Did Rick Simpson Oil come From?
The story of RSO starts with Rick Simpson, an engineer working in a Canadian hospital in the late 1990s. While eradicating asbestos from a poorly ventilated hospital boiler room, Simpson collapsed from inhaling toxic fumes. He suffered a head injury and was knocked unconscious for a few minutes. After coming to, he visited the emergency room, but despite receiving medical attention, Simpson continued to suffer from dizzy spells and a ringing in his ears for years following the accident.
Simpson’s experience with ineffective pain prescriptions thereafter led him to learn more about cannabis and its positive effects. After Simpson inquired about receiving medical marijuana from his doctor and was refused the treatment, Simpson went on to source his own cannabis. Thanks to his findings, he began to experience the relief he so desperately needed.
In 2003, six years after his accident, Simpson was diagnosed with skin cancer. Since he had successfully treated his other symptoms with cannabis, Simpson decided to treat his cancer topically with concentrated cannabis oil. He made sure to apply the oil to a bandage that would cover the cancerous spots for many days at a time. In just four days, the cancerous spots had disappeared from his skin.
Since then, Simpson has cultivated his own cannabis plants and harvested them to create the cannabis concentrate we now know as Rick Simpson Oil. He’s helped treat thousands of patients with RSO, free of charge, and to this day remains a pillar in the medical cannabis community.
